As climate change intensifies, urban heatwaves are becoming increasingly challenging. In central London, temperatures can even reach 35°C.
But small pockets of greenery can make a significant difference.
The SUGi Project compared temperatures in central London with those in an urban pocket forest and recorded surface temperatures up to 25°C lower within the greener area.
This shows how shade, trees, and urban greenery can provide practical solutions for creating cooler and more comfortable microclimates in our cities.
