Decarbonisation an ESG mission

Decarbonization is often framed as a purely environmental challenge, a task that falls neatly under the “E” in ESG. But that’s only part of the story. To truly succeed, organizations must recognize that the “S” (Social) and “G” (Governance) aren’t just supporting roles they are the critical engines that drive effective and equitable climate action.

• Promoting equitable access to clean energy solutions for all populations.

The Governance That Drives Strategy: The “G”

Governance provides the essential structure and accountability needed to turn ambition into action. This goes beyond just avoiding greenwashing; it’s about embedding climate strategy into the very fabric of the business. Strong governance means:

• Having board-level oversight of climate goals and performance.
• Embedding science-based targets into company strategy and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Engaging suppliers through ESG clauses and procurement controls to reduce Scope 3 emissions.
• Integrating climate risk into enterprise risk management and disclosures.
• Ensuring transparent reporting and third-party assurance practices.

In short, while the “E” sets the goals, the “S” ensures people are part of the journey, and the “G” provides the structure and accountability to make it all happen. Decarbonization isn’t a siloed environmental task it’s a coordinated ESG mission.
