NDC 3.0 Guidebook for Industrial Decarbonization
The NDC 3.0 Guidebook for Industrial Decarbonization is a collaborative effort by UNIDO and Gauss International Consulting which offers a structured, step-by-step roadmap to help countries raise the ambition and implementation of industrial decarbonization within their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
3 Key Enhancement Areas:
Process – Strengthen institutional mechanisms for NDC design, implementation, and tracking.
Data – Improve accuracy and consistency of national statistics and GHG inventories.
Targets – Set more ambitious, transparent, and sector-specific emission reduction goals.
The guide promotes robust MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) systems, alignment with IPCC and UNFCCC standards, and strong national statistical systems for informed policymaking.
Why it matters?
The industrial sector including steel, cement, and chemicals is a major GHG emitter. Enhancing this sector’s decarbonization strategy is crucial to meet the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target and achieve net zero by 2050.
