Placemaking: A Path to Community Resilience

As urban planners, our work goes beyond designing structures—it’s about creating meaningful spaces that foster connections and build resilient communities. I’ve been inspired by Singapore’s approach to placemaking, where planners, architects, and local communities work together to transform public spaces into vibrant, people-centered environments.

Placemaking enriches both the physical and social fabric of our cities. Whether through small interventions in streetscapes or large-scale precinct activations, these efforts create places that feel welcoming, inclusive, and reflective of local identities. We must adopt a similar mindset in Pakistan, particularly in areas like ex-FATA, where community-driven urban design can be the cornerstone for building social cohesion and economic growth.
