What if your product could stop pollution before it happens?
Most people know about Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
But there’s a new kid on the block: Scope 4 – Avoided Emissions. 👀
It’s not official (yet), but it’s a big deal. Why?
Because Scope 4 is all about the emissions your product helps avoid by replacing something worse.
Think solar instead of coal. Electric cars instead of gas ones.
Here’s how it works in 5 simple steps:
1️⃣ What would happen without your product? (That’s your baseline)
2️⃣ Measure those emissions
3️⃣ Measure the emissions from your solution
4️⃣ Subtract to see what you helped prevent
5️⃣ Be super clear about how you got your numbers
👉 Example:
A solar farm vs. a coal plant.
If coal would’ve created 1,000 tons of CO₂ and solar only 100, you just avoided 900 tons. Boom—Scope 4.
We can’t reach climate goals by only cutting our own emissions.
We also need to show how we help the world cut theirs.
Let’s measure not just what we emit—but what we help the planet avoid.
