4th Connective Cities Asian Dialogue Event

Cities are gaining increasing importance globally, with urban actors worldwide facing similar urban development challenges. While local solutions are essential, these issues are becoming increasingly relevant at the global level. Many innovative solutions for sustainable urban development already exist at the local level, such as in energy efficiency, mobility, and municipal services. However, these solutions are often not widely known due to a lack of systematic access to practical examples. The pressing challenges posed by rapid global urbanization demand efficient and innovative approaches, particularly in areas like Good Urban Governance, Integrated Urban Development, Local Economic Development, and Municipal Services – the four focal themes of Connective Cities.
Connective Cities is an International Community of Practice for Sustainable Urban Development, established as a joint venture between the Association of German Cities (Deutscher Städtetag), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, and the Service Agency Communities in One World (a division of Engagement Global gGmbH). Supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Connective Cities provides demand-based services to enhance cooperation among urban practitioners globally. The platform facilitates the sharing of good practices, expert knowledge, and solution-oriented peer-to-peer consulting while fostering partnerships among stakeholders.
Connective Cities addresses the question of how to achieve sustainable development through innovative strategies and practices. It highlights exemplary practices in key areas such as Good Urban Governance, Integrated Urban Development, Municipal Services, and Local Economic Development Strategies. By creating a foundation for knowledge sharing and developing transformative solutions tailored to local contexts, the platform supports sustainable urban development customized to specific needs. Through dialogue events, project workshops, trainings, study tours, virtual discussion forums, and webinars, Connective Cities fosters exchange and networking among urban practitioners on relevant themes. This collaborative approach not only facilitates knowledge transfer but also encourages new forms of cooperation among urban stakeholders. Additionally, Connective Cities aims to initiate joint projects among participants from diverse local settings to disseminate innovative solutions and drive sustainable urban transformation.
