CPCB Guidelines On Waste-To-Energy Plants – 2025

India generates 170,000+ tonnes of municipal solid waste per day. While recycling and composting handle a share, a huge fraction remains non-recyclable.

The latest CPCB Guidelines on Incineration-based WtE Plants provide a structured framework to:
✅ Ensure environmentally sound operations
✅ Align with SWM Rules, 2016
✅ Strengthen emission & leachate controls
✅ Manage bottom ash & fly ash responsibly
✅ Mandate OCEMS for real-time monitoring

WtE isn’t a standalone solution – it must be integrated with segregation, recycling & composting. But when done right, it reduces landfill dependency, generates renewable power, and supports India’s circular economy transition.
This is a big step toward cleaner urban waste management.
