A practical methodology for implementing circular solutions

The CCRI, launched by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation,
is a flagship initiative of the EU Circular Economy Action Plan (2020). It brings together a wide range of stakeholders in a collaborative support scheme designed to help European cities and regions accelerate their transition to a sustainable CE. By offering tailored guidance and resources, the CCRI supports the development and implementation of circular systemic solutions. Cities and regions play a pivotal role in
this transition, as they are closest to Europe’s citizens and act as key hubs of innovation, socioeconomic transformation, and circular ecosystems.
At the heart of the CCRI are its support activities, which help cities and regions design and implement circular systemic solutions. Through tailored guidance, technical assistance, and opportunities for collaboration, the initiative enables local actors to address practical challenges, from funding and governance to stakeholder engagement. The CCRI also helps identify regulatory and innovation gaps, while feeding policy recommendations back to the EU level, ensuring that local experiences contribute to
removing barriers and accelerating Europe’s circular transition.
