Most people see the circular economy as recycling.
But recycling is only the visible tip.
Beneath the surface lies a much bigger system: reducing consumption, refusing waste, repairing products, reusing materials, refurbishing assets, remanufacturing components, repurposing products, recovering materials, improving processes, and redesigning entire business models.
The deeper the shift, the greater the opportunity.
A truly circular economy does not simply ask, “How do we recycle this?”
It asks:
Can we avoid creating the waste in the first place?
Can products last longer?
Can materials stay in use?
Can businesses move from selling products to delivering performance?
Can industrial systems turn one company’s by-product into another’s resource?
The goal is not to make the linear economy slightly less wasteful.
It is to rethink how value is created, products are designed, resources are used, and ecosystems are regenerated.
The future of circularity is much bigger than recycling.
