ITDP at Transforming Transportation 2026

ITDP was proud to participate in the annual Transforming Transportation conference, hosted by the World Bank and WRI Ross Center in Washington, DC in March. ITDP’s highlights included the presentation of the 2026 Sustainable Transport Award, which recognized Salvador, Brazil as the year’s winner alongside honorable mentions Kochi, India and Santiago, Chile. CEO Heather Thompson also spoke on a high-level session focused on transport innovation, job growth, and the economy, and participated in E-Mobility Day, where the Brazil E-Bus Credit Fund (supported by ITDP and partners) won an innovative pitch competition. ITDP Brazil Director Clarisse Cunha Linke also presented insights on moto-taxis and urban mobility during the 4th Annual Popular Transport Day.

Other ITDP team members participated in conference side-events, including the SUM4All Consortium Meeting, where Senior Director Jacob Mason presented the Sustainable Transport by the Numbers: Tracking Global Progress report, which ITDP co-authored as chair of the SUM4All Data Tracking Initiative. Jacob also presented the report at a meeting hosted by UN-DESA regarding next steps for the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport. The report was well received and will help serve as a foundation for data tracking as the UN Decade progresses.
At the end of the week, ITDP and the World Bank co-hosted Beyond Bankable E-Bus Programs: Creating Enabling Conditions to Mobilize Private Capital, a workshop to showcase STA winner Salvador as a case study and explore how public authorities can attract private investment and scale e-bus systems. Representatives from AfD, C40, IFC, the World Bank, and others discussed key public transport topics ranging from business models to financing conditions.
