The Indonesian journal of development planning

Development is a story of progress, innovation, and impact and behind every great leap forward is careful planning, informed by research and driven by collaboration. Enter Jurnal Perencanaan Pembangunan: The Indonesian Journal of Development Planning, a platform where ideas meet action and knowledge transforms into policy. Published under the auspices of the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), this journal is more than a publication; it is a bridge that connects the world of research to the corridors of decision-making.
With its tagline “Bridging knowledge to policy,” the journal seeks to do exactly that: to weave the threads of academic rigor and practical insights into the fabric of governance. In collaboration with the Indonesia Development Planners Association (Perkumpulan Perencana Pembangunan Indonesia/PPPI), the journal has established itself as a vital tool in shaping evidence-based policies that create meaningful change. Recognized with Sinta 3 accreditation by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, the journal stands as a testament to the importance of accessible, high-quality knowledge in the public sector.
A Legacy of Visionary Leadership
The journey of Jurnal Perencanaan Pembangunan is a reflection of Indonesia’s evolving vision for development. Its origins trace back to 1990, when Professor Saleh Afif, then Minister of Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, launched the Buletin Perencanaan Pembangunan (Bulletin of Development Planning). This initiative laid the groundwork for a platform where planners and policymakers could exchange ideas.
In 1994, Minister Ginanjar Kartasasmita reignited this effort, transforming the bulletin into Majalah Perencanaan Pembangunan (Magazine of Development Planning), giving it new life as a resource for sharing insights. However, it was in the period between 2015 and 2017 that the journal truly began its transformation into the academic powerhouse it is today. Ministers Andrinof Chaniago, Sofyan Djalil, and Bambang S. Brodjonegoro championed its evolution, envisioning it as a government think-tank tool to guide decision-making. By 2017, this vision materialized, and the journal was officially reborn as Jurnal Perencanaan Pembangunan.
A Platform for Collaboration and Innovation
More than just a publication, the journal serves as an open stage for academics, researchers, government officials, and policy practitioners to bring their insights to the table. It provides a rare opportunity to transform complex research into actionable solutions, ensuring that scientific rigor finds its way into the programs, regulations, and policies that shape Indonesia’s future.
True to its mission, Jurnal Perencanaan Pembangunan eliminates barriers by offering its services completely free of charge, from submission to publication. With an open-access policy, it ensures that all articles are freely available to everyone be it policymakers seeking guidance or students hungry for knowledge. Published three times a year in April, August, and December it consistently delivers thought-provoking and impactful content to its readership.
A Vision for the Future
The journal’s influence extends far beyond academia. It is a living embodiment of Indonesia’s commitment to evidence-based policy, fostering a culture of informed decision-making at every level of governance. By integrating research with policy, it not only addresses the challenges of today but also anticipates the needs of tomorrow.
As Indonesia continues to grow and adapt in an ever-changing world, Jurnal Perencanaan Pembangunan will remain at the forefront, guiding the nation’s planners and policymakers toward a sustainable, inclusive future. Through its pages, the journal inspires collaboration, fuels innovation, and reinforces the belief that knowledge is not just power it is progress.
