Rising temperatures, air pollution, floods, droughts, wildfires, food insecurity and weakened health systems are already affecting people across every stage of life.
During pregnancy, climate risks can increase the likelihood of preterm birth, low birth weight and maternal health complications.
During childhood and adolescence, they can affect respiratory health, nutrition, mental health, access to education and access to healthcare.
In adulthood and later life, they can increase occupational health risks, cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline, mental health impacts and reduced access to essential services.
The most important point is that these risks are not distributed equally.
Biological conditions, income, geography, infrastructure, public services and existing inequalities shape who is most exposed and who has fewer resources to adapt.
This is why climate adaptation needs to be connected to public health planning, urban design, food systems, labor protection, infrastructure investment and social policy.
The climate crisis is already a health crisis.
