Complete Streets Design Guidelines

I recently explored the Miami-Dade County Complete Streets Design Guidelines, by @Miami Dade County, @Neat Streets Miami, a visionary framework aimed at creating safer, healthier, and more equitable streets for *all* users—whether you walk, bike, drive, or take transit.
🔹 Why It Matters:
– Safety First: With pedestrian and cyclist fatalities on the rise, these guidelines prioritize designs that reduce speeds and protect vulnerable road users.
– Health & Equity: By promoting walkability and biking, the plan tackles public health challenges like obesity while ensuring affordable mobility options for all residents.
– Sustainability: From stormwater management to expanded tree canopies, the guidelines integrate green solutions to enhance our urban environment.
🔹 Key Highlights:
– Context-Sensitive Typologies: Streets are categorized (e.g., Thoroughfares, Civic Streets) to align design with community needs.
– Innovative Tools: Road diets, lane diets, and curb extensions reclaim space for people, not just cars.
– Future-Ready: Prepares for autonomous vehicles and smart technology to keep Miami-Dade at the forefront of urban mobility.
This is a bold step toward a more connected, livable Miami-Dade. Huge kudos to the County, FDOT, and all partners involved!
