Countries With The Highest Carbon Footprint
Countries With The Highest Carbon Footprint: The World Bank estimates that in 2020, the top five emitters (China, US, India, Russia, and Japan) were responsible for over 66% of global greenhouse gas emissions!
โ๏ธGlobal carbon emissions are at an all-time high. They reached 37.1536.8 billion tonnes in 2022 and are projected to rise by another 1.1% in 2023, hitting a record 37.55 gigatons of CO2. This sharp rise highlights the urgency of tackling climate change.
๐ดChina: China leads the pack by a significant margin, responsible for over 30% of global CO2 emissions. This dominance is largely due to its massive industrial sector and reliance on coal for power generation.
๐ฅUnited States: The United States is the world’s second-largest emitter, contributing around 14% of global CO2 emissions. Historical reliance on fossil fuels and a large transportation sector are key factors.
๐จIndia: India is experiencing rapid economic growth and industrialization, leading to a rising carbon footprint. Currently, it contributes about 7% of global CO2 emissions. Coal dependence for power generation plays a significant role.
๐จRussia: Russia is the world’s fourth-largest emitter, responsible for approximately 5% of global CO2 emissions. Its reliance on fossil fuel extraction and exports contributes to its high footprint.
