CSR, ESG and SDGs Are Not the Same

Many organisations still use CSR, ESG and SDGs as if they mean the same thing.
They are related but they play different roles. ♻️

➡️ CSR reflects a company’s responsibility to society.
It is about values, contribution, ethics and how a company shows care beyond profit.
➡️ ESG turns that responsibility into governance, risk management and measurable performance.
It asks: how are environmental, social and governance issues managed, measured and reported?
➡️ SDGs give the broader global direction.

They help companies align their actions with wider development goals poverty, health, clean water, climate action, decent work, biodiversity and partnerships.
This infographic is useful because it helps simplify a common confusion.
The strongest approach is not to choose one over the other.

It is to connect all three:
-CSR shapes principles.
–ESG drives execution.
–SDGs define purpose.

For sustainability and planetary health, this matters because climate action cannot depend on good intentions alone.
We need responsibility.
We need performance.
We need purpose.
When companies understand the difference, sustainability becomes less about labels and more about decisions, accountability and long-term value.
