So, what exactly is ESG? And how is it different from sustainability?

ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance.

🌱 Environmental: How a company performs as a steward of nature (e.g., carbon emissions, waste management, water usage)

🤝 Social: How it manages relationships with employees, suppliers, customers, and communities (e.g., labor practices, diversity, product safety)

📊 Governance: How it is governed and how business practices are managed (e.g., leadership, board structure, transparency, anti-corruption)

Sustainability, on the other end, refers to the broader concept of meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own.

It’s about balancing environmental, social, and economic factors to ensure long-term well-being for the planet and society. It’s often driven by a long-term vision and aims to create systems that are environmentally responsible, socially inclusive, and economically viable.

While sustainability tends to focus on broader, long-term goals for global impact, ESG is more about measurable, actionable criteria for investors and stakeholders to evaluate a company’s performance and risks.

ESG data can help businesses make more informed decisions, attract investment, and foster a positive reputation.
