Indonesia’s ambitious move to relocate its capital from Jakarta to Nusantara in East Kalimantan is much more than a geographic shift it represents a new vision for urban development that harmonizes with nature while harnessing cutting-edge technology. Guided by Law No. 3 of 2022 and the master plan detailed in Presidential Regulation Number 63 of 2022, Nusantara is designed as a unique blend of forest city, sponge city, and smart city principles. Concepts in Nusantara’s Development

1. Forest City
   The forest city model emphasizes integration with natural landscapes, prioritizing green spaces, biodiversity, and reduced environmental impact. This approach will help preserve local ecosystems, create cleaner air, and provide citizens with healthier living spaces.
2. Sponge City
   A sponge city is designed to manage water more effectively, especially in terms of flood prevention and water conservation. By incorporating permeable surfaces, green roofs, and water retention areas, Nusantara will aim to handle heavy rainfall efficiently and enhance water security.
3. Smart City
   The smart city model leverages information and communication technology (ICT) and digital solutions to create a city that is not only efficient but also inclusive and resilient. Nusantara’s focus on smart infrastructure includes smart buildings that feature sensor-based parking systems, CCTV surveillance, automatic lighting, and other intelligent systems.
