Water Safe Cities

This World Water Day, we’re celebrating cities around the world that are tackling water-related risks to help their communities stay safe.

In Bogota, Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán spoke about the city’s progress: “Bogotá is establishing itself as a climate-resilient city by integrating innovation, international cooperation, and strong institutional commitment to strengthen its water security. With targets set for 2030 and 2035, our public water company is advancing efforts to increase rainwater retention and infiltration by 20% to mitigate flood risks and capture at least 50% of the biogas generated at its treatment plants. These measures and our endorsement of C40’s Water Safe Cities Accelerator reflect a decisive commitment to sustainability, equity, and climate adaptation.”
