Is 2025 the year climate change became impossible to ignore?

2025 has become a year of undeniable, and often devastating, extremes. Climate change is no longer a future threat it’s the reality unfolding outside our windows, supercharging the weather we once knew.
This year, the planet’s rising temperatures acted as a force multiplier. Hotter air holds more moisture, turning ordinary storms into record-breaking deluges that overwhelm cities and communities, just as we saw with the deadly floods in Texas and the record rainfall in New York. Simultaneously, hotter temperatures dry out the land, creating tinderbox conditions that fueled the scorching wildfires across the European Union.
We’re also witnessing a world where weather patterns stall and linger longer, transforming a passing heatwave into a life-threatening crisis. Spain’s brutal heatwave, for instance, didn’t just happen it settled in, claiming over 1,100 lives and serving as a tragic example of what happens when a climate-fueled event gets stuck in place. Even the United Kingdom, known for its mild summers, is set for its hottest on record, a clear sign that no one is immune.
These events aren’t isolated incidents. They are a clear, undeniable pattern. The question is no longer whether climate change is happening, but whether these catastrophic events are finally enough to push us into urgent action.
