Net Zero vs Climate Positive: What’s the Difference?

Net Zero vs Climate Positive: What’s the Difference?

These two terms are often used interchangeably, but they represent very different levels of climate ambition.

♻️ Net Zero
➡️ Reduce greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible.
➡️ Offset the remaining emissions through carbon removal or other mechanisms.
🎯 Goal: Achieve a balance where emissions released = emissions removed.

🌱 Climate Positive
➡️ Go beyond Net Zero.
➡️ Remove or avoid more carbon emissions than you generate.
🎯 Goal: Create a net benefit for the planet by actively restoring ecosystems and reducing atmospheric carbon.

Think of it this way:

🔹 Net Zero = “Do no further harm.”
🔹 Climate Positive = “Leave the planet better than you found it.”

As businesses accelerate their sustainability journeys, the conversation is shifting from merely neutralizing impacts to creating positive environmental value.

💡 The future belongs not just to organizations that emit less, but to those that regenerate more.

Which approach do you believe will define the next decade of corporate sustainability?
