Think B4 your plastic!

A Breath of Unhealthy Air

It’s easy to think of plastic pollution as a problem out of sight and out of mind, like the infamous garbage patches floating in the ocean. But what if the problem was as close as the air you breathe?

The truth is, microscopic plastic particles are swirling all around us, and they’re not just an environmental issue—they’re a health crisis. Every year, air pollution contributes to roughly 7 million deaths globally, and plastic plays a significant role. These tiny particles, called microplastics, come from sources you might not even consider, like the tires on your car, the synthetic clothes you wear, and even the artificial grass in parks.

Once these invisible particles are released, they become a part of the air we inhale. When we breathe in these microplastics, they can cause serious health problems, including:

  • Airway and lung diseases
  • Increased risk of cancer
  • Heart attacks and inflammation
  • Damage to our skin and stomach

The Climate Connection

The problem doesn’t stop with our health. The life cycle of plastic is a major driver of climate change. Roughly 70 million metric tons of plastic are burned every year, releasing an enormous amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This is only going to get worse by 2050, plastic could contribute a staggering 2.8 gigatons of CO2 equivalent emissions annually.

The plastics industry isn’t just creating a waste problem; it’s silently choking our air, our bodies, and our planet. The best time to act was yesterday, but the second-best time is now.
