Green and thriving neighbourhoods three years of local action for global impact

Shaping Tomorrow, One Neighborhood at a Time!
We at CITIES FORUM are incredibly inspired by the groundbreaking work of C40 Cities and their partners through the Green and Thriving Neighbourhoods (GTN) Programme. This initiative is a powerful testament to how action at the neighborhood level can truly propel global climate and equity goals forward.
Over the past three years, C40 and Urban Partners have built a dynamic community of over 50 cities, with more than 20 already piloting local projects. These projects are designed with a clear vision: to prioritize proximity, health, equity, and climate resilience for their residents.
What truly sets the GTN Programme apart is its practical, people-first approach. It’s all about tangible improvements that make a real difference in people’s lives:
- Creating walkable, low-carbon neighborhoods that reduce reliance on cars and promote healthier lifestyles.
- Strengthening local economies by fostering vibrant, accessible community hubs.
- Improving public spaces and access to essential services, ensuring everyone can easily reach what they need.
- Engaging communities directly in the transition, empowering residents to shape their own sustainable future.
C40’s latest report is a treasure trove of city examples and invaluable resources, offering inspiration and practical guidance for urban planners and decision-makers worldwide. You can explore these insights further by checking out their report here.
Our sincere kudos go to Camille Tallon and the many experts who are passionately driving this program forward, as well as to the dedicated alliance of partners, including UN-Habitat, UNEP, Arup, and many others.
