Interconnected 2026: Saving the Forest or Taking it Over?

Indonesia is at a critical crossroads in the governance of its forests and natural resources. As new climate and restoration initiatives—including carbon markets, ecosystem restoration, and forest governance programs—expand across the country, important questions emerge: Who benefits from these efforts? How transparent and accountable are they? And are local and Indigenous communities meaningfully included?

In this Pulitzer Center webinar, journalists, academics, civil society leaders, and environmental advocates explore how forest restoration and climate action intersect with governance, justice, and power. The discussion draws on two Pulitzer Center-supported investigations examining alleged inflated carbon credit claims linked to APRIL Group and Indonesia’s Forest Area Recovery Task Force (Satgas PKH), highlighting the complex challenges behind environmental restoration efforts.
