Urbanie and Urbanus (U+U)

Urbanie and Urbanus (U+U) is a periodic journal and communication tool designed to foster dialogue among institute members, related professions, decision-makers, and the local community. Beginning with a focus on Hong Kong’s city and community, it expands from this local perspective to engage with China, Asia, and the international sphere. With the limitless reach of an online resource, the e-journal provides learned critique to encourage participation and engagement through understanding, as well as ‘below-the-line’ debates on issues both large and small—from state-building to street furniture.

The core aim is to develop a deeper understanding of our cities across their varied scales and aspects, written by and for the widest possible range of users and key actors. We collaborate with universities, the building profession, and the public, offering articles that combine the scope and immediacy of everyday dialogue with the precision and depth of serious debate. Through this, the publication seeks to raise awareness of updated design tools and methods, particularly within Hong Kong, China, and the broader Asian region.
