A decade of global climateaction: Building resilience, transforming lives

Climate change confronts humanity with grave threats and great opportunities. No country or community is immune to the threats, but inaction on climate change will expose the world’s most vulnerable populations, who have contributed least to historical carbon emissions, to the most immediate and severe risks. The opportunities represent the flip side of the financial, social, and economic costs that will come
with inaction. An accelerated low-emission and climate resilient transition represents the defining investment opportunity of the 21st Century, boosting economic growth and creating jobs today while leaving tomorrow’s generation with a sustainable planet. And investing now in the climate adaptation needed to shield vulnerable communities from the unavoidable impacts of climate change could provide a powerful impetus towards the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, including the eradication of poverty and hunger, reduced inequality, and more inclusive growth.

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) was established to respond to the climate crisis and seize opportunities to build a fairer and more sustainable future. With a unique mandate as an operating entity of the financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change UNFCCC) and serving the Paris Agreement, GCF supports developing countries to implement their national adaptation and mitigation priorities, including Nationally Determined Contributions and National Adaptation Plans (NAPS). The Fund plays a crucial role in providing accessible and affordable finance, empowering developing countries, including the most climate-vulnerable communities to participate fully in the collective effort to secure a sustainable and resilient future.
